July 14 is France's national holiday. On this day, the French celebrate the anniversary of the capture of the Bastille, a former state prison destroyed by the French people in 1789 (thousand seven eighties-<br>All towns and villages are celebrating. The tricolour flags fly on all the facades. The stands, set at all crossroads, the terraces of cafés are adorned with garlands and lamps.<br>It's a hundred-faceted party. It begins the day before with torchlight retreats and balls in the streets. Everybody's out there. We head to the squares where orchestras play fashionable tunes. We dance until late at night.<br>On July 14, in the morning, military music can be heard everywhere. At 9 a.m. military magazines begin in the capital and in all major cities. Foreign guests come to watch the July 14th parade. In Paris, it takes place on the Champ-Elysees. Troops march in front of the President of the Republic. At the same time, in the villages, the marching bands open the march by playing military tunes. <br>And behind them, all the inhabitants are marching in the streets. It's a day of Republican glory. On this day, the whole of France seems to be dancing the Carmagnole, since it is the feast of the Republic, the feast of freedom. Orchestras play in the squares and on street corners. We sing "La Marseillaise," the national anthem of France.<br>In the evening fireworks light up the sky. But the party doesn't end there. Proms start again. We dance and sing all night. Everyone's gay. On all sides you hear laughter and jokes. The whole of France celebrates this great day.
